Football Recap: Lafayette Piles Up the Points Against Branford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lafayette). They blew past the Branford Buccaneers, posting a 55-7 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hornets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 350th).

Tywan K Williamson produced another solid effort throwing for 214 yards and four TDs on only 12 passes, while also rushing for 71 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024. Ryland Wine was another key player, picking up 47 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Lafayette proved: they limited Branford to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Alex Townsend for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lafayette didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.1.

Lafayette didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Trevor Byrd and Lane O'Steen. Byrd got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Lafayette's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.7 points on average over those games. As for Branford, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.

Coming up, Lafayette will be playing at home against Chipley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' defense has only allowed 9.2 points per game this season, so the Hornets' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Branford, they will head out on the road to challenge Hamilton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
