Shelton never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hamden on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Green Dragons a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Gaels, who have now won eight matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Sammi Denihan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Jeanise Serrano was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chayse DellaRocco, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Shelton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Shelton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wilbur Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Wilbur Cross might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Shelton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Governors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
