The Lake Braddock Bruins will take on the West Potomac Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Tuesday, Lake Braddock made easy work of Alexandria City and carried off a 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Mac Verdejo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Addison Forde was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mae Brewin, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Lake Braddock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, West Potomac had just enough and edged out Fairfax 8-7 on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Sabrina Driggers, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shea Studdiford, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Lake Braddock's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for West Potomac, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
West Potomac's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Braddock has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. It's a different story for West Potomac, though, as they've been averaging 12.7 hits. Given Lake Braddock's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolverines will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lake Braddock came up short against West Potomac in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
