Baseball Recap: Lucas Takes a Loss

Lucas extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Gilead Indians. The Cubs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Jack DiBartolomeo was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Lucas is 4-1 when DiBartolomeo allows one or fewer hits, but 6-8 otherwise. DiBartolomeo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

DiBartolomeo wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bobby Grover, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Mt. Gilead, their victory bumped their record up to 5-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 29th.

Like Lucas, Mt. Gilead also got a great game from a two-way player: Gage Baker. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Baker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

Looking ahead, Lucas will square off against Hillsdale at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Gilead, they will take on Bucyrus at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Redmen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.56 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
