Tucson High Magnet School is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tucson High Magnet School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Cesar Chavez on Friday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Badgers in their matchups with the Champions: they've now won four in a row.
Tucson High Magnet School got a great performance from Addisen Prieto as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
At the plate, Andreana Hernandez was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Daniela Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Tucson High Magnet School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside got the win against Desert View on Friday by a conclusive 8-2.
Ashley Rosthenhausler made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Rosthenhausler was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Vianney Cruz and Noelani Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Those runs were Martinez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Arianna Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Tucson High Magnet School's victory bumped their record up to 9-7-1. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Tucson High Magnet School's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Badgers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sunnyside, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Tucson High Magnet School continue to outrun the ball?
Tucson High Magnet School couldn't quite get it done against Sunnyside when the teams last played back in April of 2025 as they fell 11-6. Can the Badgers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
