The Kings Mountain Mountaineers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Huss with a 71-66 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Kings Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bradley Floyd, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Floyd is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last eight games he's played. Caleb Nixon was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Huss lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Phillips has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zamarius 'Z-Man' Gladden, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Kings Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Huss, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Kings Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Gaston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 61st). As for Huss, they will head out on the road to challenge the Red Raiders at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. South Point has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 717 points over their last ten games.
