This season hasn't been kind to the Incline Highlanders, who are still winless after their ninth matchup. Their rough 43-20 defeat to Battle Mountain on Friday might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Incline has suffered since December 12, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Incline lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kylie Erickson. Despite the final result, she scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Erickson has scored all season.
Battle Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stevlana Martinez led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Martinez hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Noel Hill, who scored 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Incline bumped their record down to 0-9 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.9 points per game. As for Battle Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Incline will take on Sierra Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sierra Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday. As for Battle Mountain, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oasis Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
