The Montclair Cavaliers will square off against the Chino Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Montclair's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three games, but Monday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Montclair came up short against Ontario and fell 5-2.
Montclair saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Sosa, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Chino came into Saturday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Los Altos on Saturday. That looming 15-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cowboys yet this season.
Kristine Lancaster was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Lancaster was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Leff and Isabella Panduro did most of the damage at the plate: Leff got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, while Panduro went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Kaylee Cardoza was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Chino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Altos only posted an OBP of .304.
Montclair's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Chino, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montclair hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Chino struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Montclair couldn't quite get it done against Chino when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
