Lowell extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 8-3. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oakland Oakers. The Red Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Oakers earlier this season, when they won 4-3.
Ben Thurman put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tanner Coiner made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Adam Davis, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Oakland, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-10 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 9, 2025.
Like Lowell, Oakland also got a great game from a two-way player: Karter Spencer. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Oakland is 2-1 when Spencer allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Spencer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kody Pfaff, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jachai Myers was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Coming up, Lowell will challenge Oakridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Oakland, they will host North Douglas/Elkton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
