Baseball Recap: Oak Forest Academy Takes Down Ranked Columbia Academy

Oak Forest Academy is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Columbia Academy. The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cougars 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellowjackets have posted since March 19th.

Tyler Mulkey looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Cole Covington was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Kade Perkins was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Oak Forest Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia Academy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-8.

Looking ahead, Oak Forest Academy will host Silliman Institute at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbia Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Parklane Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
