Softball Recap: Jena Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Jena had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Avoyelles Charter Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won 12 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Masters tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Callie Decker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Poole, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Jena's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Avoyelles Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Jena has already played their next contest, a 7-2 win against Sterlington on the 1st. As for Avoyelles Charter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 11-4 victory against Glenmora on the 1st.
