Basketball Game Preview: Mount de Sales Academy Sailors vs. St. Paul's Girls Gators

Mount de Sales Academy and St. Paul's Girls are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Mount de Sales Academy Sailors will head out to square off against the St. Paul's Girls Gators at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mount de Sales Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Mount de Sales Academy is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since December 6, 2023 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Notre Dame Prep 35-33.

Mount de Sales Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katie Carroll, who posted six points along with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Carroll has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Lewis, who had 14 points and six rebounds.

Mount de Sales Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, St. Paul's Girls lost 58-37 to St. John's Catholic Prep on Friday. The Gators have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Mount de Sales Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for St. Paul's Girls, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Mount de Sales Academy strolled past St. Paul's Girls in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 46-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount de Sales Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
