In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Glynn Academy made off with a 45-44 win over the Mustangs. Given Glynn Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 284th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Glynn Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Martin Davis, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 12 games she's played. Janiyah Spaulding was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
South Effingham's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elena Hairston, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Hairston has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Johanson, who scored 12 points.
Glynn Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for South Effingham, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Glynn Academy will take on the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Effingham County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for South Effingham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
