The Calvert Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. Their rough 44-24 loss to Northern might stick with them for a while. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Calvert struggled afterwards.
Calvert's loss came despite strong showings from Alyssa McLane and Brooke Kidwell. McLane scored 13 points, while Kidwell scored six points along with 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McLane has scored all season.
Leading Northern to victory were Mikayla Jones and Haley Longfellow. Jones almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 steals, while Longfellow scored 17 points along with eight steals. It was the first time this season that Longfellow scored 15 or more points. Alyssa Lane was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Calvert dropped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.7 points per game. As for Northern, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvert will take on the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Great Mills presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cavaliers in Maryland (the Hornets are ranked 118th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 259th). As for Northern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. La Plata is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
