The Gilman Pirates will face off against the Phillips Loggers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gilman has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gilman is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Flambeau on Monday. They came up short against the Falcons, falling 12-2.
Phillips never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mellen on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Grainte Diggers with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Loggers have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Annaka Tobias made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Trinity Smith and Raelee Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Bella Rehberg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Phillips hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 8-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Gilman has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Phillips, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
Gilman got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Phillips by a conclusive 13-6 score. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Loggers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
