7A District 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Durant extended the longest winning streak in 7A District 8 this week by beating East Bay, 28-3. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Cougars.
Will Worth was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 97 yards on 18 carries as Newsome bested Riverview. Hendricks also contributed to the rushing game with 74 yards on the ground.
Nick Rodriguez put up the best numbers through the air as Plant City beat Brandon. He had a total of 12 completions for 119 yards. Rodriguez's favorite target this week was Joe Davis, who caught three passes for 55 yards.
Hendricks was the best wideout in the league this week as the Wolves defeated the Sharks. Hendricks racked up two receptions for 56 yards. Tyson Mills helped Newsome's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
The Raiders' Rodriguez and Tavares Chase have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 7A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Rodriguez has thrown for 1325 yards this season, while Chase, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 15 catches for 388 yards. Jamarlon Hamilton from Durant leads the league in rushing with 960 yards.
Hamilton of the Mike Gottman's team is only 40 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Newsome takes on Plant City. As it stands, Kenneth Hiscock's team is in third, while Wayne Ward's team is in second.
The Wolves led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Mike Thornton's team. Worth threw for 107 yards in the win.
