Frontier has gone 8-2 against Clinton Prairie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Falcons will face off against the Gophers at 7:30 p.m. Frontier hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Frontier fell victim to Twin Lakes and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 12-0. Considering the last time the Falcons couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, Clinton Prairie had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let Traders Point Christian get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday. The Gophers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Sadie Weliver and Maddy Wessell were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Weliver struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Wessell pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Weliver got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs, while Wessell earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Weliver has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keera Grizzle, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Zelda Wampler, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Clinton Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traders Point Christian only posted an OBP of .263.
Frontier's loss dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Clinton Prairie, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Frontier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Clinton Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Frontier might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Clinton Prairie in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
