Reed-Custer has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. The Reed-Custer Comets and the Streator Bulldogs will face off at 6:45 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Reed-Custer will be strutting in after a win while Streator will be coming in after a defeat.
Reed-Custer posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2023 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 45-22 margin over Wilmington.
Kaylee Tribble and Gwen Stewart were among the main playmakers for Reed-Custer as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds and the latter scored nine points along with six rebounds and six steals. Tribble hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Grace, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Streator lost to Herscher at home by a decisive 42-23 margin on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Streator in their matchups with Herscher: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their defeat, Streator saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Shantell Morton, who scored two points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all.
Reed-Custer's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11. As for Streator, their loss dropped their record down to 1-21.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Reed-Custer have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Streator struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 26.2 rebounds per game. Given Reed-Custer's sizeable advantage in that area, Streator will need to find a way to close that gap.
Reed-Custer took their victory against Streator in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 by a conclusive 42-16. Will Reed-Custer repeat their success, or does Streator have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
