Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. West Brunswick Trojans

Hoggard is 10-0 against West Brunswick since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hoggard Vikings will face off against the West Brunswick Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Hoggard knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully West Brunswick likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Hoggard strolled past Laney with points to spare, taking the game 63-46.

Will Seward was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Flanner Patterson, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, West Brunswick didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Topsail on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 55-50 win.

Hoggard better focus on containing K'Veon Griffin and Matthew McKenney as the pair were huge in West Brunswick's win. Griffin had nine points in addition to six assists and six steals, while McKenney put up 19 points. McKenney continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Graham, who posted seven points.

West Brunswick's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-6. As for Hoggard, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Hoggard has been crazy accurate this season, having drained 47.5% of their field goals per game. It's a different story for West Brunswick, though, as they've only made 34% of their shots this season. Given Hoggard's sizable advantage in that area, West Brunswick will need to find a way to close that gap.

Hoggard strolled past West Brunswick when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
