Two dominant guards in Jason Castro and Nick Madsen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Laughlin Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the GV Christian Guardians at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Laughlin is ranked 99th, while GV Christian is ranked 85th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 102-32, which was the final score in Laughlin's tilt against Needles last Friday. Laughlin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 62-15.
Meanwhile, GV Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 76-38 victory over Southeast Career Tech. The victory was just what GV Christian needed coming off of a 81-47 defeat in their prior match.
GV Christian can attribute much of their success to Deomani Loveland, who scored 18 points along with eight assists and four steals, and Madsen, who almost dropped a double-double on 33 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Madsen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Terrance Turner, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Laughlin and nudges their season record down to 4-14. As for GV Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13.
Laughlin might still be hurting after the 52-27 defeat they got from GV Christian when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Turner, who scored 21 points along with six assists. Now that Laughlin knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
