Corona del Sol is 1-9 against Desert Vista since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Aztecs will be playing at home against the Thunder at 3:45 p.m. Corona del Sol has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Corona del Sol and Hamilton, and Hamilton kept the tradition alive. The Aztecs lost 13-2 to the Huskies on Tuesday.
Corona del Sol saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylie Pequeno, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Desert Vista came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 10-6. Desert Vista's victory was all the more impressive since the Huskies were averaging only 3.43 runs allowed on the season.
Thailee Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jessa Ramirez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenzie Leitgen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Desert Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Desert Vista pushed their record up to 20-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Corona del Sol, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Corona del Sol hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Desert Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Corona del Sol couldn't quite get it done against Desert Vista in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 15-11. Can the Aztecs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
