Having just played yesterday, the Statesboro Blue Devils will jump right back in to play the Vidalia Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Statesboro has eight straight wins, Vidalia has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Statesboro has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Tattnall County 67-39 on the road. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Tattnall County is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alyssa Staten continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 30 rebounds. Those 30 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Reya Johnson, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Vidalia was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 36-35 to Long County.
Statesboro's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Vidalia, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Everything went Statesboro's way against Vidalia when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as Statesboro made off with a 71-45 victory. Will Statesboro repeat their success, or does Vidalia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
