Loveland is 1-8 against Horizon since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Loveland Red Wolves will look to defend their home court against the Horizon Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Loveland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Loveland pushed their score all the way to 81 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Mountain Range 85-81. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Saturday (77), Loveland still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Loveland saw an underclassman step up: Jackson Gebhardt went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 3 assists. That's the first time this season that Gebhardt scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ryder Eastin, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Horizon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They strolled past Prairie View with points to spare, taking the game 61-43. Given Horizon's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Prairie View is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Aiden Greene, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Mccollum, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Loveland's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-7. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Horizon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Loveland came up short against Horizon in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 54-50. Thankfully for Loveland, Max Thornton (who shot 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
