Riverside is 0-10 against Neshannock since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Panthers will challenge the Lancers at 6:30 p.m. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Riverside needed a bit of extra time to put away Shenango. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wildcats 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Ayla Sterner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, Riverside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Rosenberger, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Neshannock strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Shenango with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Lancers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Addy Frye made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miley Anderson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jaidon Nogay, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Neshannock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shenango only posted an OBP of .286.
Neshannock's win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Riverside, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Neshannock struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverside might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Neshannock in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
