Even though the Luther Cougars scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, the Portledge Panthers still came out on top. Portledge took their contest against Luther 70-58. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Portledge.
When it comes to explaining why Luther lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tristan Elcock. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Gavin Hugine, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Portledge's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Luther, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Portledge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Anthony's at 5:15 p.m. on January 21st. Hopefully St. Anthony's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Friday. As for Luther, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Stony Brook at 6:00 p.m.
