The McClatchy Lions will face off against the West Campus Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. McClatchy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so West Campus' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
McClatchy took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Bella Vista, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Broncos on Saturday.
McClatchy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cali Del Mazzio, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, West Campus got the win against Burbank on Friday by a conclusive 15-3. Considering the Warriors have won four games by more than 11 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Derion Aaron was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Alena West was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
West Campus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
West Campus is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for McClatchy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McClatchy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like West Campus struggles in that department as they've averaged .416. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McClatchy took their win against West Campus in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
