Maya Guzman put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over six innings while giving up seven earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Janelle Montoya was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Briseida Felix, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
As for Calaveras, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-2. The result was nothing new for the Red Hawks, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On Calaveras' side, Kendra Baechler and Emma Clark did most of the damage at the plate: Baechler went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Clark went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs Clark has posted since April 2nd. Carlee Jasper was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverbank will host Linden at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Calaveras, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Big Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
