The Covina Colts will head out on the road to face off against the Summit SkyHawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Covina is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Covina put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 41-7 victory over Rowland on the road. Given Covina's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Rowland is ranked 859th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Joaquin Barragan, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Duronslet, who threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Summit gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They pulled ahead with a 14-13 photo finish over Jurupa Hills.
Summit found their leader in underclassman Jesse Vega, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Their wins bumped Covina to 8-2 and Summit to 7-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Covina has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 369.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Summit struggles in that department as they've been even better at 371.3 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
