Basketball Recap: Lennard Comes Up Short

Lennard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-65 heartbreaker at the hands of the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans.

Defeat or not, Lennard got some senior leadership from Richard Sykes and Nate Montalvo. Sykes dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds, while Montalvo almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sykes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Makai Hills, who posted eight points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lennard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Jaydon Shannon had an outrageously good game for Winthrop College Prep Academy as he almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Shannon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Brookins, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Lennard's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-10.

Lennard will square off against Hillsborough at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Lennard is facing Hillsborough at the right time seeing as Hillsborough is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, they will face off against Seffner Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Winthrop College Prep Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches.
