The Winfield Generals struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Saturday (the Robert C. Byrd Eagles were 30% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Winfield took a 46-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Robert C. Byrd.
Despite the loss, Winfield still got an impressive performance from Antonela Johnson, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlee Johnson, who scored two points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Robert C. Byrd can attribute much of their success to Martina Howe, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Carleigh Curotz was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Winfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winfield's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Joseph Central at 9:00 a.m. on December 9th. Hopefully St. Joseph Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. Robert C. Byrd will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Philip Barbour at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th.
