Softball Recap: Strongsville Takes a Loss

Strongsville had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-12 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Shaker Heights Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 back in April.

Addison Heidenhoffer was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Heidenhoffer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Hartman, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

As for Shaker Heights, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

Like Strongsville, Shaker Heights also got a great game from a two-way player: Scout Harvey. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Harvey has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Emerson Miller was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Strongsville will take on Steele at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Shaker Heights, they will challenge Medina at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
