The Armstrong River Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a rough 61-37 defeat at the hands of Fox Chapel. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Armstrong has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Armstrong lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacob Szep. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points.
Jefferson Moorefield-Brown was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points for Fox Chapel. Moorefield-Brown is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Alex Betancourt Jones was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Armstrong has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Fox Chapel, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armstrong will challenge Shaler Area at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shaler Area is coming into the matchup with nine straight wins at home, so Armstrong is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Fox Chapel, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodland Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodland Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Fox Chapel likes a good challenge.
