The Batavia Bulldogs will challenge the Wheelersburg Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Batavia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Batavia had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Reading on Thursday. The Bulldogs blew past the Blue Devils 15-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.
Mason Patrick was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Max Rash was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Batavia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reading only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, Wheelersburg entered their tilt with Minford on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons, sneaking past 5-3.
Wheelersburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Heimbach, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Andrew Holland, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Wheelersburg pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Batavia, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Wheelersburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Batavia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Wheelersburg, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Batavia's hitters?
