The Brush Beetdiggers were the 59-57 winner over the Prospect Ridge Academy Miners when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Brush was outmatched by Prospect Ridge Academy at home and fell 68-31. While losing is never fun, Brush can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Prospect Ridge Academy is ranked 108th).
Samuel Vasquez was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds and five assists for Prospect Ridge Academy. The matchup was Vasquez's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Schilling, who scored 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Brush and nudges their season record down to 1-8. As for Prospect Ridge Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brush won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against University at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. University is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Prospect Ridge Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Manual at 7:00 p.m.
