After flying high against the Gibbon Buffaloes last Friday, the Fillmore Central Panthers came back down to earth. Fillmore Central took a 38-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies on Monday. Fillmore Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Fillmore Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenna Mccoy, who scored ten points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Jordyn Stassines was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Heartland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hayden Mierau led the charge by scoring nine points. Mierau continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hiebner, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Fillmore Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Heartland, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.
Fillmore Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wolverines at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Wilber-Clatonia is ranked 228th, while the Panthers are ranked 233rd). As for Heartland, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
