Columbus is a perfect 4-0 against Miami since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Explorers will face off against the Stingarees at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Columbus 2.2, Miami 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Columbus saw some tournament action on Friday. They came out on top against Stony Brook by a score of 7-3.
Stony Brook's batters probably weren't too happy with Dayan Viciedo, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up two walks).
At the plate, Jose Correa and Mario Magana did most of the damage at the plate: Correa scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Magana scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Matthew Fernandez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Miami entered their tilt with Miami Beach on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Hi-Tides with a sharp 13-3 win. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Jann Soto made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other pitching news, Santiago Espana-Reconco looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
Back at the plate, Samuel Bort-Batista was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darvin Linarte, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Miami's victory bumped their record up to 18-7. As for Columbus, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Everything went Columbus' way against Miami in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as Columbus made off with a 14-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Explorers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
