Freeman has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Gregory Gorillas at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Freeman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
On Saturday, Freeman was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-48 to the Cavaliers.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Rylee Peters, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Ashlin Jacobsen was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Gregory's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a tough 68-44 loss at the hands of Parkston. While losing is never fun, Gregory can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Trojans are ranked 12th).
Freeman's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3. As for Gregory, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.
Freeman was able to grind out a solid win over the Gorillas in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 60-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Gregory's Cassidy Keiser, who scored 18 points along with two steals and two blocks. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Freeman to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
