Basketball Recap: Avery Butler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cimarron over Waukomis

Cimarron has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 72-67 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waukomis Chiefs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (65), the Trailblazers still had to take the loss.

Several Trailblazers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Butler, who went 8 of 14 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points. The matchup was Butler's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Drake Butler, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Cimarron's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Waukomis, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Cimarron didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 84-36 win against Sharon-Mutual on the 20th. As for Waukomis, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Garber at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
