Cathedral is 0-4 against Horizon since February of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Irish will square off against the Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Cathedral's victory against Irvin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Irish sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Rockets back in March.
Leonardo Fonseca and Sergio Beltran did most of the damage at the plate: Fonseca went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Beltran went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Julian Eacalante, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Cathedral hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvin struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Horizon was able to grind out a solid victory over Bel Air on Friday, taking the game 7-2. The win continues a trend for the Scorpions in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won five in a row.
FRANKLIN MILLER made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JERAMIAH PAZ, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. GILBERTO SOTO was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Cathedral's record now sits at 11-8-3. As for Horizon, their record is now 16-11.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cathedral hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cathedral couldn't quite get it done against Horizon in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 as they fell 4-1. Can the Irish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
