Gracie Gillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mollie Gillis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt got the win against Bishop Union on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-3. The Rough Riders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Iyanna Molano was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Molano was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Natalie Torres and Alicia Maldonado did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Maldonado went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Torres has posted since back in April. Samantha Rivera was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Roosevelt is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Strathmore, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Strathmore hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
