The Cherokee Chiefs will head out to square off against the Washington Township Minutemen at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Cherokee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Cherokee took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Paul VI, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chiefs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chiefs have posted since May 7, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Allison Cunane, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollee Jacobus, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Washington Township, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Deptford on Tuesday by a score of 5-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Minutemen in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Cecelia Lagreca spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Jenna Irrgang was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Cherokee and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Washington Township, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-6.

Everything went Cherokee's way against Washington Township when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Cherokee made off with a 12-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
