3A Mid-State recap Oct. 3, 2012
Northern Guilford extended the longest winning streak in 3A Mid-State this week by beating Eastern Guilford, 32-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Nighthawks.
Rockingham County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Cougars defeated Williams 38-18 earlier in the week.
Daniel Cardwell put up the best numbers through the air as Rockingham County beat the Bulldogs. He finished with eight completions for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Cardwell's favorite target this week was Hunter Welch, who caught four passes for 55 yards.
Malik Wilson was the best wideout in the league this week as Eastern Alamance topped Western Alamance. Wilson racked up two receptions for 134 yards. Zach Littell helped Eastern Alamance's passing attack out by catching two balls for 14 yards.
T.J. Logan was the most productive running back in 3A Mid-State this week. He ran for 155 yards on 16 carries as Northern Guilford bested the Warriors. Malik Parker also contributed to the rushing game with 24 yards on the ground.
Josh Long provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Eastern Alamance bested Western Alamance. He completed eight passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 43 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Long of John Kirby's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1313. He has also thrown 19 touchdowns. On the ground, Johnny Roscoe's team's Logan has rushed for 1041 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is DAKOTA HOPPER. The McMichael star has 28 catches for 501 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Nighthawks take on McMichael. At the moment, Northern Guilford is in first, while the Phoenix are in sixth.
The Nighthawks took down the Wildcats 32-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Logan threw for nine yards and caught one passes for 16 yards in the win.
