Central State recap October 8, 2013
Lakeview moved up to 161 from 197 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Central State. The Wildcats were able to move up by beating Hesperia 52-6.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Reed City beat Chippewa Hills 42-7. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Coyotes.
Garrett Cavendish was a passing and rushing force as Lakeview beat the Panthers.
Tyler McGuire made the biggest impact on defense this week as Central Montcalm lost to Newaygo. The 5-foot-7 sophomore forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Nate Shurlow and Cavendish gave Sean Rinehart's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Shurlow threw for 26 yards and 1 touchdown, while Cavendish ran for 161 yards. Teammate Shurlow added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Chase Huntey of Morley Stanwood is the league leader in passing yards this season with 565. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tyler Kelsey. The Chippewa Hills star has 19 catches for 445 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Hesperia takes on Reed City. The Panthers are currently in fourth, while Monty Price's team is in first.
The league will see a high scoring game when the Hornets and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Central Montcalm comes in having scored 141 this season, while Lakeview has scored 170. Marty James' team scored 8 points last week as it lost to the Lions.
