After flying high against West Blocton on Monday, Pickens Academy came back down to earth. The Pirates took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the University Charter Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The Pirates were not able to make up for their loss to the Trail Blazers from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.
Hudson Pennington and Dalton Crowe were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Pennington tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Crowe didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2025. At bat, Pennington got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI, while Crowe got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Kaden Craft made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Pickens Academy now has a losing record of 2-3. As for University Charter, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Pickens Academy will take on Berry in a tournament on Saturday. As for University Charter, they will head out to square off against Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
