The Seymour Owls will head out on the road to square off against the Floyd Central Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Seymour's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Floyd Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Seymour was able to grind out a solid victory over Charlestown, taking the game 4-1.
Phoebe Underwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, EmmaKae Sweet was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Maggie Calhoun also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Stars. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Floyd Central also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Emmy Miller gave up only one earned run on one hit and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Breleigh Lockhart, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Elise Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Floyd Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive contests.
Floyd Central pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Seymour, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Seymour might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Floyd Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
