The Littleton Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Conifer Lobos at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Littleton is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Green Mountain on Thursday. They fell 6-1 to the Rams. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost seven in a row.
Littleton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Calonder, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Another was Thomas Kusner, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Conifer). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Standley Lake on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lobos with their most commanding win of the season.
Brandon Roe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has become a key player for Conifer: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Roe was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Mason Hogzett was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Luke Adams was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Conifer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Conifer's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-11. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Littleton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Littleton came up short against Conifer in their previous matchup back in April, falling 11-8. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
