The Davis Sr. Blue Devils will face off against the Del Oro Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Davis Sr. 4, Del Oro 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Davis Sr.'s usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Whitney hitters got past them. Davis Sr. lost 16-3 to Whitney last Friday. It was the first time this season that the Blue Devils let down their fans at home.
Gracie Martinez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Del Oro got themselves on the board against St. Francis on Friday, but St. Francis never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Troubadours. Considering the Golden Eagles have won six contests by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Messina looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Avyn Brower was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Chloe Champas was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Del Oro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Francis only posted a batting average of .150.
Del Oro pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Davis Sr., this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Davis Sr. hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Del Oro struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Davis Sr. suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Del Oro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Davis Sr. have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
