The Wirt County Tigers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 68-52 win over Gilmer County. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wirt County also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Wirt County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylan Dawson led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five steals. Dawson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Alex Bevel was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Wirt County's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Gilmer County, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wirt County will take on South Harrison at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gilmer County, they will be playing at home against Braxton County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
