The Thatcher Eagles were the 63-36 winner over the Douglas Bulldogs when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Thatcher was dealt a 57-30 loss at the hands of Douglas on Thursday.
Douglas was led to victory by Francia Rubio and Scarlette Ruiz . Rubio scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals, while Ruiz scored 14 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. The match was Ruiz 's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Keyra Espinosa, who scored 8 points along with 3 steals.
Thatcher has fallen quite a ways from their 19-7 record last season and are now at 1-4. As for Douglas, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thatcher will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Show Low at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th. As for Douglas, they will head out on the road to face off against Palo Verde at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
