The Cranford Cougars came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged Elizabeth out 47-45. 47 seems to be a good number for Cranford as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Despite the loss, Elizabeth still got an impressive performance from Alexandra Koon, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. Koon is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Alani Gordon was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Cranford has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Elizabeth, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranford will take on the Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. New Providence presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in New Jersey (the Pioneers are ranked eighth, while the Cougars are ranked 41st). As for Elizabeth, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on February 1st.
